Hindustan Motors is an automobile company of Indian origin. The company has its major production plant in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The legacy of Hindustan Motors dates back even before the Indian’s freedom struggle; the company was started in the year 1942. Hm cars India is an automotive venture of the Birla Technical Services Industrial Group. The company was the largest car manufacturer in India before Maruti Udyog cars debuted in the Indian market. One of the most popular HM car models was the Ambassador.

HM car models were known for their durability and their performance on the Indian roads at that time. The company has ventured in segments like passenger class cars, small trucks, trucks and tractors. Hindustan Motors also had several joint ventures in the past with companies like Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Morris and General Motors.

From making engines to supplying spare parts, Hindustan Motors have done it all, and the results have always satisfied the buyer's needs. They have built successful cars like HM Contessa, which featured the engine made by Isuzu motors. They have also featured with cars like Mitsubishi Lancer as the Indian version of the car was manufactured and distributed by them. Recently, HM cars sold their Ambassador Brand to Peugeot Motors.

As the production of HM cars stopped a long time ago, there are only two prominent HM car models which are available in resale condition namely HM Ambassador and HM Contessa. These cars can be bought at the price range of INR 1.5 lakhs for a used HM Ambassador, whereas the used HM Contessa would fall in the price range of INR 80,000.
